Internet world has a huge target of clients by various companies now. They are willing to pay a portion of money to publisher/bloggers who's gonna qualify to represent their products online.  This is called Affiliate Marketing Programs.

I thinks one reason that affiliate programs work so well is because the publisher (we) are not relying on a computer to match up ads to your content like in Adsense system, instead you do it yourself. Using the ads that would work best on your content and which products and services you recommends. And when your readers see that you've taken the time to review a product or service, they're going to feel more comfortable buying that product.
Most programs have very specific rules about how they pay, but there are two common ways that you can expect to see: 

Pay-per-Click - the company will pay you whenever someone click the links they provide you.
Pay-per-Action- the company will pay you according to the customers actions, what he does after seeing the ads on your page. depending on the offer some by sales percentage etc.
